After 8 years and countless combs I’ve gone from this...
December 23, 2009 marked 8 years that I cut off my relaxer and decided to take a walk on the nappy side. Best decision I ever made. Check out this post for my hair story.
I blew my hair out to prep it for New Year's Eve.
It's the dog days of summer and hair feels hat on my head. The only way the alleviate feeling like I have a sheep on my head is to wear my hair up. While watching youtube I came across this simple and cute style. It's real simple and can easily turn into 3 styles.
1. Section hair. You'll want to section a part on the side that you'll twist up.
I got bored with my regular twistout so while on youtube I found a way I could spice it up and I love it. It's a really easy curly fro. The method in the video didn't work for me so I tried this one which works great!
Simply get yourself some foam rollers. You can get them at the beauty supply they come in packs of 5-6 in varying sizes. Pick the roller size you want for the curl size you want. I use the mid to larger sized ones which are kinda long. Perm rods also work well but I advise using paper since the surface is somewhat rough and can snag your hair. This can be done on freshly twisted hair or on older twists when you're ready for a twistout. The amount of twists are up to you. You can do a few twists or a lot. Before I set them on the rods I spritz with my glycerin mix and rub my shea butter/coconut mix through my hair.
Step 1: Set your twists on flex rods. I leave them in overnight.
For 2009 I'm going back to my fave hair color blue black. I like to color my hair black for the fall/winter and a burgundy for the spring/summer. 2007 I went to the Dominican Republic and came back with seriously noticeable red hair. Toward the end of 2008 I cut a lot of the color out but the ends were still red and I was tired of it. I either use Feria or Garnier but the beauty supply didn't have them so I picked up my stand by Bigen.
See the color on the ends...
I decided to do a variation on the up do I did here. Instead of crisscrossing my whole head I only did the sections of the front that were 2 strand flat twisted. To be honest the original style normally has me in tears by 3pm. Those bobby pins really, really hurt. I need to figure out a way to pin it with out stabbing my scalp in the process. So I did a pin/bun combo.
Flat twist/ 2 strand flat twist/ braid the front any way you like. I'm still trying to figure out a new style for my 2 strand flat twists so I just went with my old faithful.
I'll only be crisscrossing the 2 strand flat twisted parts.
